Look for updates

Freshness Warning
This blog post is over 19 years old. It's possible that the information you read below isn't current and the links no longer work.

This week I came across a couple of bugs in Snoopy and since there hadn’t been an update to it since 2000, I went looking for the cause of the bugs and fixed them. Today, I discover that there’s an update. And it fixes one of the two problems I have just finished fixing. In fact, the code for the fix looks identical to mine, except for the variable names.

So the moral of the story is to always look for updates before you go off fixing things your self.

In my defense, the software hadn't been updated in almost 4 years. It sure looked like a dead project.
