ZDNet | Copy-protected CD makers lose battle: "The companies have agreed to stop tracking personally identifiable information of listeners, to purge their files of such information, and to warn consumers that the CD doesn’t work in DVD players, MP3 players or CD-ROM players."
That's true. You can read more about it at http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/4/23736.html Philips is also planning CD burners that circomvent the copy protection on these discs.

I hear that Philips is pressuring labels to either not copy protect or to put labels on CDs saying they might not be compatible with some audio hardware. Philips and Sony developed the original CD spec in '78 and Philips retains rights over the CD logo and trademark.
