Finding your way

An important part of helping people to use your site is allowing them to know where they are and how they got there. Breadcrumb trails have emerged as a common way of doing this. But at the same time, many sites are breaking the brower’s built-in mechanism for helping people remember what they have seen.

Elegant Hack discusses the importance of highlighting visited links in a different color than links that have not yet been clicked.
