Automating screen captures?

Freshness Warning
This blog post is over 17 years old. It's possible that the information you read below isn't current and the links no longer work.

Oh, lazyweb, I implore thee...

I’m looking for a screen capture tool that can automate captures. Every time the Windows desktop changes, I’d like to capture it. Or, for a Mac, everytime the contents of a window changes (the window would be a VNC connection to the Windows system).

There’s those security cameras that only record when there’s movement. I want that, but for screen captures. Heck, even a screencasting tool that ignored duplicate frames would would.

Anything out there?
