For me the popup is enough but what I really want it to have a tray icon rather than a taskbar entry.

What happens when you get multiple messages at the same time. Stack the little notifiers on top of each other?

SharpReader used the same little pop-up, and when you’d first open it and received all the new entries, it had the comical effect of stacking notifiers off the top of the screen. It got a little ridiculous.

You essentially want what Outlook 2003 provides, which is admittedly very handy.

No, the popup window just stays open longer and cycles through all of the messages. So if each message is shown for 3 seconds and you have 5 messages, the window is open for 15 seconds. The Flash animation on the screenshots page does a good job of demonstrating this.

A feature that might be nice to have is a setting where you can say that if there are more than N messages, don’t show the popup at all. So when you open up Thunderbird after being offline for a couple of days you don’t have the popup window sit on your screen for 5 minutes scrolling through messages.

Or you could just click the little ‘X’ at any time to shut it up.

What I want is the Thunderbird Notifier run in the background, so I don’t have to leave my Thunderbird Open all the time.

I like the idea of background notification as well, but I’d like to see more than just which account is getting new mail. In Outlook now, I get a preview of the message which is slick. I can delete or open that message as well as just see what it is.

I’d also like to see this on my mac which simply gets a green check mark in the dock icon and a slight sound to notify.

The built-in preview with OL2003 only works with the default mailbox. If you’re using OL as an IMAP client, you won’t get the notifications.

I agree with Peter - I would like it to minimize to tray so I dont have to have it taking up my taskbar space!

I just wish there was a plugin that allowed Thunderbird to sit in the systray and not on taskbar…

The Bat, an email client programmed in Moldova, is worth a look. It has a scrolling notifier that you can position where you will on your screen, whilst minimising the Bat window to a taskbar icon. Does somebody happen to know if there are some cool notifiers available for Thunderbird like they are for incredimail??? I always miss the damn sound of the Thunderbird ‘notifier’ and this little icon is hardly visible :P.

I really like to see thunderbird to have that cool notifiers like incredimail. I’ve been using incredimail for couple of years but decided to give Thunderbird a blow!

Hope you - developer guys try to create an extension that accomplish this kind of fancy notifiers :)

I make signature tags and e-mail stationery. I generate so much e-mail in a given day that my husband traded my outlook for thunderbird. I am still learning how to use it. Can anyone tell me if I can use my stationery adn signature tags with it?

nsnotify.exe has been great for allowing me to check personal email from work, without having to run two different mail programs all day long. I wanted to switch to Thunderbird, but found it had no similar background notifier. As such, I spent a few days “knocking out” an nsnotify “work alike” in Visual Basic 6.0. I’d like to see an email notifier that has a small footprint and is separate from Thunderbird. A pop-up notifier like Outlook’s would be nice, and it should launch Thunderbird when you click on it. I don’t like leaving my mail app open all the time, so the small footprint app that checks my pop3 accts on a schedule or interval would be great.

The best free notifer I have used is Mailmoa! You setup just like your mailbox and you can add whatever sound you like. Also you can read your mail right away without even havin to open mail program. So if it is suspect you can delete without opening program and getting infected! I like it alot!!

Good news !!! If yr after email sound notification for TB on seperate accts.you will be HAPPY. I’ve been using Mail Alert 0.8 for a day or so and it’s brilliant, also allows you to configure pop-up message text to yr specs. Find it at www.extensionsmirror.nl in the TB extensions section.

What I also would like to see on TB: An extension that marks the email as seen or not seen. When I get a reception email, it’s placed under the send (wich is ok), but a simple icon on the email itselve would be helpfull.
