The comment spam has gotten so bad that I’ve taken to deleting any short, generic comment that gets left. If your comment could easily apply to any entry here or on any other site, it will probably get deleted.

This might seem like I’m being overly aggressive, but it will probably have the unintended side effect of improving the quality of discussion around here. If all you have to say is “thanks” or “me too,” then perhaps your comment would be better suited for private email.

I’m also going to start being more judicious about which entries I allow comments or TrackBacks on. Previously almost every single entry I wrote allowed comments and TrackBacks. Now I’m only going to allow them on entries where discussion actually makes sense. I might even go close the discussion on most older entries.
